It's all about the penguins!

Desenganem-se os que pensam que todos os argumentos, statements, e chavões sobre as tidas como questões fracturantes da sociedade se esgotavam no mundo humano.

A julgar pelo que passarei a descrever as achas para a fogueira vêm agora do mundo animal.

Mais concretamente, dos pinguins.

Tenho alguma relutância em falar sobre filmes que nunca vi. Aliás, toda a relutância, por ser uma contradição óbvia nos termos. Mas, neste caso, o filme é um documentário e um documentário da National Geographic sobre os pinguins. “The March of the penguins”. Narrado por Morgan Freeman.
É desculpável falar-se, não em termos analíticos, mas em jeito de "promo" de um filme que nunca se viu quando a ideia é aguçar os apetites. E toda a gente sabe que não há nada como reacções polémicas em cadeia para encher salas de cinema. (O Nine Songs é um bom exemplo disso.) Mesmo que seja para ver um documentário sobre pinguins.
E porque é que um filme sobre umas aves esquisitas que não voam e vivem no gelo tem potencial para polémica?

Aparentemente nada.
Pois, é um filme sobre pinguins. Mas é também a nova coqueluche dos americanos conservadores e republicanos. Romarias para ir ver o filme. Grupos cristãos a dizerem que o filme é a melhor coisa do mundo. Enfim, o segundo documentário mais visto nos EUA a seguir ao Fahrenheit 9/11 do Michael Moore. E tudo porquê? Aparentemente, os pinguins e a sua vida no gelo são um exemplo para qualquer cristão que se preze.
Senão vejamos, Richard Lowry, editor do National Review e citado no New York Times ,exortando os jovens conservadores num encontro : "You have to check out 'March of the Penguins.' It is an amazing movie. And I have to say, penguins are the really ideal example of monogamy. These things - the dedication of these birds is just amazing."
E Richard A. Blake, também citado no NYT, "You get a sense of these animals - following their natural instincts - are really exercising virtue that for humans would be quite admirable. I could see it as a statement on monogamy or condemnation of gay marriage or whatever the current agenda is."

Eis que, bicho preto e branco por bicho preto e branco sempre fui mais miúda de pandas, mas isto tenho que ver.
